Recently, something unexpected and wonderful happened in my life. After 40 years of being out of contact, I reconnected with my childhood best friend.

There is something special about reconnecting with someone who knew you when you were young. We have both changed, and so much has happened over the years. Yet, when we began talking again, there was an immediate sense of familiarity. Memories came flooding back, and it was wonderful to laugh together about things that happened so long ago.

It reminded me how precious the relationships we form throughout our lives can be. Some friendships last through every season, while others become quiet for a time. But distance and time do not necessarily erase the love, memories, and connection that were once shared.

Ecclesiastes reminds us, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Sometimes a relationship has a season of closeness, a season of distance, and—when we least expect it—a new season of connection.

I am grateful for this unexpected gift and the joy of discovering that some friendships really can pick up where they left off—even after 40 years.

Perhaps there is someone from your past you've been thinking about. Maybe this is a gentle reminder to reach out. You never know what joy might be waiting on the other side of a simple hello.

Upcoming Sermons…

Some things we learn in Sunday school stay with us for life. We may not remember every lesson or Bible verse, but we remember the songs: “Jesus Loves Me,” “This Little Light of Mine,” and “I’ve Got the Joy.” We remember the simple truths they taught us.

In this series, “All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Sunday School,” we’ll return to some of those songs and lessons and discover that the truths we learned as children may be exactly what we need to hear again as adults.

We’ll provide the ice cream, but we will need the congregation’s wonderful desserts to make the afternoon extra special! In the coming weeks, a sign-up sheet will be available for anyone who would like to bring a favorite dessert to share.
