January 2026

Happy New Year! As we begin 2026 the words of the prophet Isaiah come to mind, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in
the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19

A new year… time to take a few moments to reflect on 2025 and count your blessings. It is also time for a fresh start, to refocus on the things that are most important.

At Robinson Chapel, 2026 will be a year of getting back to the basics. We will focus on prayer, study, connection, caring, and service. While I know many of us are already doing these things, it never hurts to be more intentional in these vital aspect of our faith! So keep on reading to learn how we will do just that!

Sermon Series

Glory Revealed

The Season of Epiphany is a celebration of the light that was revealed to the world.

January 4 Seeing the Light | Isaiah 60:1-6, Matthew 2:1-12 Epiphany is all about light. The star in the sky leads the magi to Jesus, the light of the world, the revelation of divine love who came to dwell among us.

January 11 Power of Presence | Isaiah 42:1-9, Matthew 3:13-17 After the pomp and circumstance of Christmas, Baptism of Our Lord Sunday can sometimes get overlooked.

January 18 Give You as a Light | Isaiah 49:1-7, As we move deeper into the season after Epiphany, we continue to explore the glory God reveals among us.

January 25 Carrying the Light | Psalm 27:1,4-9, The light has come. We’ve received the light and the call to bear the light to all the nations.

February 1 What is Good | Micah 6:1-8 At the center of worship today is…worship. Yes, that may sound redundant and even unhelpful, but bear with me. Micah 6:1-8 is about worship.

February 8 Call to Action | Isaiah 58:1-12 Last week, we explored how Micah helps us discern whether we are aligned with God’s call to live with justice, mercy, and humility. This week, Isaiah calls us to action.

February 15 Glory Revealed | Exodus 24:12-18, Matthew 17:1-9 Transfiguration is a foretaste of the glory of Resurrection, a revelation of Jesus’ divinity that has been hidden, yet is no less real.

SOUP & Missions Soup Luncheon

In November, Pastor Peggy returned to Guatemala to serve alongside others at Mission Guatemala. The day after she returned, she promised to share some of her stories and pictures with us at a later date. Well…that later date has come.

Join us on Sunday, January 18 at 11:30 in our lower level for bowl of hot homemade soup, bread, and dessert. After lunch we will gather again in the sanctuary to hear about Pastor Peggy’s most recent trip and a little more about all the ways Mission Guatemala is Serving Others and Uniting People in Guatemala.

There’s no need to bring anything, just your desire to discover more about this wonderful mission. (and maybe bring a friend)

Pray for one another

Many times when we hear of someone in need, we find ourselves wishing we could do more for them. Well…the very best thing we can do is pray! So this year, as we are getting back to the basics, prayer is going to be a key focus! Below you will discover a couple of the opportunities for you to join with others in praying for the needs of our community.

Prayer Chain

The RCUMC Prayer Chain is there to pray for urgent needs 24/7. When an urgent need arises, contact Pastor Peggy or Paulette Hambrock. They will activate the prayer chain by either sending a group text or making phone calls to those who have requested to be a part of the Prayer Chain.

If you would like to be added as a member of the prayer chain, please contact Pastor Peggy or Paulette.

Tuesday Morning Prayer Group

Each Tuesday morning at 9:00, a faithful group of people gather at the church to pray. This group is open for anyone to join us. However, we realize there are things that may prohibit you from joining us in person, but that doesn’t mean you can’t join us in spirit!

If you would like to receive the prayer request we pray for every week, please contact Sue Rick. She will be sure you get our standing prayer list. If you are interested in receiving the prayer request list from Sunday morning, let Pastor Peggy know that as well and she will be able to text you that list prior to 9am on Tuesday.

Through the Bible in One Year

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it.Joshua 1:8 NLT

Back to basics…nothing is more basic than reading the scriptures! Join with other members of Robinson Chapel UMC in reading through the entire Bible in 1 year. Each week Pastor Peggy will share that week’s readings as well as a few questions for you to reflect on. Hope you will join us on this journey…

Community Connections & Congregational Care

“So continue encouraging each other and building each other up, just like you are doing already.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

I am so very thankful for a church family that loves and cares for one another! This year as we get back to basics, we will be more intentional about connecting and caring for one another.

But what exactly does that mean and what does it look like? Well…

  • we will be more intentional in welcoming, following up, and connecting with our guest.

  • we often notice when members of our congregation are missing, but we aren’t always very good at checking to make sure they are alright and letting them know we miss them. So not only will we pay closer attention to who we are missing, but letting them know we miss them.

  • we will be more intentional of letting our shut ins and our college students know we are praying for them.

This year, we will reactivate our Congregational Care Team. If you would like to be a part of this team, please contact Pastor Peggy/

Serving

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms," 1 Peter 4:10

Each of us has been given gifts and talents to serve in the work of the church. As we get back to the basics, serving is one of the key ways we not only show our faith, but grow it.

During our stewardship campaign, you were given a booklet listing the many ways you can serve in the life of the church. As we begin 2026, we would like to expand the number of people we have serving.

While we have people serving in many different capacities, we are in need of additional people to serve as backups and to be learning the ropes.

Please see the list to the right for ways you maybe able to serve.

If you are interested in serving, please contact Pastor Peggy.
